Recovering

It's been a whirlwind last couple of weeks with Lisa. First an MRI of her back determined a definite herniated disk with a bulging excrusion I believe they call it. Then the decision to have the laminectomy/discectomy a week later. That was this past Wednesday. We checked in at 7am. She went into the operating room at 9am. Was back in her room around 111am but we had to continue waiting til after 3pm when she could get another round of antibiotics before we could go home. She's doing fine other then physically and emotionally the pain and stress have takin their toll. The loss of mobility and constant reminder of the back staples etc continue to increase her stress. Because of those things I decided it best that I move in basically and stay with her for support and care in the meantime. Luckily Mi & Chase both were quite helpful in taking care of themselves while I stayed over at Lisa's. She's improved the most I think now to feel less afraid of being by herself. She's even trying to taper off the pain killers but has yet to sleep more then 1-2 hrs at a time or sit on anything more then a kitchen chair for 20 minutes a pop. I know it's getting there slowly though so I feel like it's ok I go to Des Moines tomorrow to find her satin sheets with Mi.

We'll leave Chase in charge and Grandma Carol will be arriving in the afternoon to change her dressing and assist her in her first post op shower. She's a clean freak so it's really annoying her she's even the slightest bit unfresh! -laughs- I've got her food taken care of and fridge stocked so they should be able to get along until I return. By Monday I hope to be back at work and only having to assist her in things like laundry, cooking and cleaning. We've decided Chase will walk to her house every afternoon after school for the entire 6 weeks so he can check on her. Then if she needs things done too he can help her with lifting and keeping her company in general. She's unable to travel for the next 2 weeks so she's already getting stir crazy. It also doesn't help that her one cat is psycho and constantly runs around making noise. If we close the door to her room he bangs on it loudly no matter how many times I squirt him with the water bottle. Personally he's lucky I'm not his owner or he'd be in a kennel upstairs every night where he's contained and behaving like a good kitty should! -grumbles- In the meantime I'm just trying to be patient and sleeping on the air mattress in the living room. I will be glad to get back to normal myself and reacquaint myself with my waterbed and my husband! It's been a good experience all around though and reminds us we all support each other when it's important no matter what it is. I think in the long run the surgery for her was a great success thus far as it's relieved the excruciating nerve pain she was having. Especially since it was causing her quality of life to become nearly impossible and her limbs became increasingly weaker.

Ok on a random note Chase just came in here and while wearing a disposable latex glove tells me a friend at school gave it to him! Oh man he doesn't even realize how disturbing that thought is until I explained to him that who knows where that glove has been before he got it!!! Kids! They are SOOO weird. -lol-

Mi is playing frisbee golf with Bret tonight and gloating in getting his Gnarled Tree map piece in our Mousehunt game. Darn him! I was unsuccessful and gave up and went on in the game so he LOVES being one step ahead of the ole ball and chain yet again! -rolls my eyes- Luckily tomorrow morning we're meeting at little league practice and going to have a romantic breakfast while Chase warms up with his team the Rockies. Then it's off to DM together to get the satin sheets Lisa needs to slide across more easily when in bed. It's crazy they don't carry them nearly anywhere except Bed Bath & Beyond. So the things we do for family! It'll be nice to spend some time together alone though even if it's only in the car and shopping for sheets and at Sam's Club! If only it were going to be as nice a day tomorrow as it is right now. Beautiful out there and warm and sunny. Rain forecast for Saturday though! If were lucky it'll hold off until after Chase's baseball practice. Now I just have to figure out where to get the baseball pants he's requesting I buy! Man do we suck at this sports thing! Unlike my BFF Tari. Shes a pro but I'm embarrassed to ask her THAT simple of a question so I'll figure it out if I am able. IN the meantime I want to wish you all a lovely weekend. I'm off once again to transform into Chief Nursemaid and cook now.
