Valentine's Day is right around the corner and we've been trying to figure out the best way to celebrate but not buy into the buying frenzy in our new life of frugality. Jeremiah and I have vowed to enjoy a date night. We'll be using a gift card for a restaurant we'd gotten last month for it! We should be able to have a romantic dinner without much cost to us and still enjoy a night out. If I can find some good coupons or specials going on we can stretch our gift card even further and that is my goal now. Afterward we'll go home and watch our favorite series Caprica together we'd recorded or one of our movies we get from Netflix on an unlimited basis for less then $8 a month! I'll make margarita's that we've stocked up on ingredients we'd saved purchasing at Sam's Club and voila celebrating without putting a big dent in our monthly budget.
I also once again am relying on the blogging community to help out! I saved $1 on a Willy Wonka Valentine's kit and ended up paying only $2 which will supply Chase's entire class. Get it HERE if you are interested. And yes it comes with valentines and 2 little pixie sticks to attach to each. Who doesn't love pixie sticks? I printed the coupon online and Walmart had no trouble taking it even if it didn't come up in their system after being scanned. I learned last week with my Milk and Egg coupons that were very new and only for a limited time that different stores have different policies on coupons printed on your home printers. Usually the larger sellers like Walmart, HyVee, Walgreens & Kmart will be less problematic but I did have a good experience at Fareway with 2 of mine. I had to speak with the manager and he asked me a couple questions and explained they have to be careful about counterfeits but then was very nice and accepted them. Many suggest you don't cut them out after printing so the stores can see the websites they are coming from because often times they'll know the site but not the specific coupon especially if it's a new one. Either way yes it can take a little extra work but in the end I think it's minimal and well worth it. I saved $12 last week on groceries and that's using them mostly on sale items but not buying things I normally would not. Often store brands are less then the cost after a coupon on brand name products so you need to take that into consideration before planning your shopping. So far so good for us and I intend to continue to explore this avenue for cutting the cost of our food budget without feeling we're eating mundane and unhealthy meals. It also helps when like this morning I got my Dove deodorant for 0.58 cents after using my$2 off coupon!
