Chase, my youngest chose St. Sebastian as his 'favorite Saint' for a Mass they were having at school this past week. Now I'm not the most artistic, handy, thrifty Mother nor seamstress so I had no clue what we were going to do for getting him something to 'dress up' as Sebastian! In fact I usually cringe at these types of activities because they make me anxious. Unlike Tari who really loves this kind of thing and is the best seamstress I know! In fact it was my adoration of her that even gave me the courage to try and take on making something for Chase. Anyway, he and I along with Mi all worked together making it and I have to say it turned out to be such a wonderful experience. I was so proud of us all 3 for working together and doing the parts that we each do best to unite in one project. I'll post some pictures later this week when I have some more time to download and upload them to the blog. I'll also include some of him in his halloween costume and of his nephews in theirs that my father-in-law sent us.
After researching online who St Sebastian was. I had no clue nor did Mi. Catholics celebrate Saints much more then other faiths and our house is definitely a melting pot of different spiritual views. My mother also even visited the local costume shop looking for something that would work which whould have been simple to utilize instead of making something. And for this I am grateful even if we didn't have any luck there! The shop is open only a few hours a day a few days a week so it made it nearly impossible for me to get there. In those moments retired grandparents are priceless! After work monday evening Chase and I drove around like mad people to different stores including the local Goodwill in search of ideas. I'd found an online site for people that reanact Roman military scenes etc so it was quite helpful to know what to attempt to make. I almost felt like I was on that tv show 'What Not To Wear' where we ran into stores looking for things we'd been schooled on beforehand and attempting to make outfits that would be suitable. Ok mind you it was that of a Roman Imperial Army Soldier rather then something for daytime business but I often akin experiences like that to make them less tedious and more 'fun'. I know. I'm strange but hey! It's not like you're paying for this it's a free read!! hee hee
Stay Tuned and see what we found at Goodwill and how St Sebastian the Roman soldier turned out. For now though it's time for laundry, cleaning and looking for that perfect Chicken Tortilla Soup Recipe to go with the chicken breasts cooking in the crockpot. I hope you are enjoying a lovely warm sunny sunday in Iowa today too!
